Tips to help you manage your allergy

If you can identify the type of allergy you have and the triggers which cause your symptoms, then you can take some simple steps to avoid them. Even if you don’t know the specific trigger, there are ways to help minimise the effects of common allergens and help keep your allergy under control.
Send Dust Mites Packing!
- Regularly vacuum carpets and soft furnishings
- Wash bed linen, pillows and children's toys in hot water
- Invest in a mite proof bed and pillow cover
- Avoid or minimise the amount of soft toys
- Keep rooms well aired
- Avoid wool underlays, feather and down pillows, quilts and cushions. Use cotton or synthetic products
The Great Outdoors
- Minimise outdoor exercise on high pollen days
- Wear a mask when mowing the lawn or gardening
- Remove any plants from the house or garden that trigger your allergy
- Keep the outdoors out on windy days - close household windows and keep car windows closed when driving
Living with your Four Legged Friends
- Keep pets outdoors where possible and always out of bedrooms and off furniture
- Vacuum carpets regularly and keep pet's bedding clean
- Brush pets outside regularly to remove loose hairs and dander. Wash pets (or better still, have someone else wash pets)
as frequently as possible
Stay Spore Free
- Keep your house well ventilated
- Use an air conditioner or dehumidifier to clean, cool and dry the air
- Keep the number of houseplants to a minimum as they breed mould
- Use bleach and mould inhibitors to clean showers, kitchens and laundry areas where moulds might grow
